The biggest threat to democracy is the uninformed voter. It kills me when I talk to other voters and ask them who or what they voted for and why and they have no idea why they voted a particular way. All the campaign signs and commercials target is that army of ignorant voters. If you vote for or against someone based on those signs or commercials, what service are you actually doing for your country. None. I get so sick and tired of hearing about how great it was that so many people voted during the last presidential election. A significant amount of people (on both sides) came out to vote for their presidential candidate for whatever reason. The problem is, many had no idea why they were voting for whoever they voted for. But even worse, I am sure those people did not just for for President, but they also voted for the myriad of candidates for Congress, state races, local races, and issues. Did these "well informed" voters research these candidates and issues??? I really doubt it. However, many probably looked at the choices and voted because there was (R) or (D) next to their name or maybe they remembered a commercial or sign and voted. Ignorant people voting IS NOT a good thing. Yes, you have the right to vote. However, people have the right to bear arms, and even the right to bear children...that doesn't mean everyone that has those rights should do it.
